from Ancient Land- Ceramic Paintings by Jingdezhen
Grand Master Cai Zhong Shun & Malaysia Women artists. This event is to
commemorate the occasion of the Georgetown Festival 2011.
The exhibits are selected ceramic art created by Cai Zhong Shun, the grand master
of ceramic art from Jingdezhen
and ceramic paintings by Malaysian women artists.
During the early 20th Century, Baba Nyonya (also known as the Straits Chinese) from Singapore,
Malacca and Penang ordered the
ceramics from the Ming kilns at Jingdezhen
with colourful and elaborate design for use in the
occasion of ceremonies and festivals. Nyonya
Porcelains today are treasured as the heritage art of Penang as it reflects the taste and lifestyle of
the Baba Nyonya in Penang
during the early 20th Century.
Shun was born in 1958 in Jingdezhen. Graduated from
the University of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy OpenUniversity, he currently
serves as the Director
of China Jingdezhen Mount Pearl Museum of Ceramic Art, President of the Orchid Pavilion Chinese Jingdezhen cum official researcher of the imperial kiln. In 1994
the China Jingdezhen Municipal People's
Government awarded Cai
Zhongshun the honor of " Master of Ceramic Art". His ceramic work entitled "Glaze color silk like
alabaster box " has won him
the First Prize in the first International Ceramics Festival and the National
Excellent Ceramic Art Contest prize competitions and of
the Tenth National Tourism Fair .
Recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award for Jiangxi Province, his work entitled "
Joy of Life - cabbage and Grasshopper" is now the permanent collection of the Chinese Art Treasures
Museum. Winner of the Golden Prize at the China and
South Korea Eight Provinces Ceramic
Painting Master Demonstration. His boigraphy and art is listed in the "Dictionary of Contemporary Ceramic Masters, "Jingdezhen
Ceramic Art Heritage" and "Glory of life". His works were selected for the International Ceramic Art Masters Exhibitions. Many of his master pieces were collected by local
and foreign collectors.
There will be a Ceramic Painting Workshop conducted by Cai Zhong Shun on July 15 -17.
The aim is to provide the opportunity for the young artists, art students and
ceramic art lovers of Penang
to gain exposure into the unique technique of ceramic painting using eco
